Gardens on the Go: Top Reasons to Start a Container Garden
Wouldn’t we all like to have a lush, verdant backyard with endless hills and tons of acreage to plant a garden or trees? Sadly, for most of us, that is not the case. So, if you have limited space but still would like the benefits of growing your own flowers, vegetables, herbs and spices, a container garden is the perfect solution for you! Here are the top reasons why a container garden is perfect for you!
Reason #3: Portability
Whether you plan to live in your home for the next sixty years or the next six months, container gardens enable you to take your garden and go without ruining your lawn. Additionally, you can place these containers virtually everywhere. On decks, patios, balconies or even hang them from your outdoor overhang. Best of all, if sudden inclement weather were to strike, you can easily salvage your plants by moving them inside and away from any unexpected deluge, frost, or worse, snow.
Reason #2: Shoo the Flies Away
Believe it or not, certain plants and flowers can attract or repel certain bugs. While some bugs and creepy crawlies are beneficial for gardens and lawns, others certainly are not (and can be a hassle!). That’s why you can utilize separate containers to maintain a proper balance of bugs you want and bugs you do not want near your flowers, lawn or home. Be sure to do your homework to find out what flowers and plants attract what type of pests.
Reason #1: Aesthetic Appeal
Perhaps this is the most obvious reason for starting a garden at all. However, container gardens a small enough area for you to properly maintain and care for whatever you decide to plant in them. Meaning, the chances of overgrown vines or weeds is small since the area to prune and keep an eye on is so small. No weeds means a prettier garden; a prettier garden means a happier you and being happy is worth it, right? So what are you waiting for? Go out there and start your garden-on-the-go!
